- Where can I find my account number?
-
You can find and edit all the information about a VT529 account on the settings page — including contact info, condition, customization, money allocation, and yearly goal.
- How do I change my address?
-
You can update your address directly from your profiles, accessible through the dashboard. When you update a VT529 account’s address, there’s a 15-day hold for all check withdrawals requested using the Withdrawal Form, by calling customer service, or requested online.
- Where can I change my password or set up multi-factor authentication?
-
Once you log in, select “Security Center” from the dropdown menu next to your profile icon in the upper right corner of the screen. You can also go to your profile and select the “Open Security Center” button next to Login settings. From here, you can make any changes to your account that have to do with your login credentials.
- Can I enroll and manage a VT529 account with a paper form?
-
The easiest and fastest way to enroll and manage a VT529 account is online. If you want to use paper forms for enrollment or managing your account, you can find the forms here.
- Can my spouse and I be joint owners of an account?
-
No. There can be only one account owner for each VT529 account. It is possible, though, for each of you to have your own separate VT529 account for the same beneficiary. You can also identify someone as the Successor Owner, or in other words, an alternative account owner should you pass away or become incapacitated. If you ever need to change the account owner, you can always do so by downloading and submitting our Change Account Owner Form.
- Can I transfer assets in a Coverdell Education Savings Account to a VT529 account?
-
Yes. You can transfer Coverdell Education Savings Account (ESA) funds into your VT529 account by using our Rollover Form (PDF). The transfer of funds can be made tax free so long as the contributions to your account are being made for the same beneficiary within the same taxable year. Consult your tax advisor for more info.
- What happens in the event of death or disability of the beneficiary?
-
In the unfortunate event that your beneficiary dies or becomes disabled, you can withdraw the funds in your account. Please note, the earnings portion (not the amount you contributed) of this withdrawal is subject to federal income tax. However, you will not be charged the additional 10% federal penalty tax.
- How do I give other individuals access to my account?
-
You can share account access by adding Authorized Users. This feature allows others to view or help manage your account depending on their permission levels. You can choose from Viewer, Contributor, and Manager roles, which give Authorized Users unique permissions by role. Only the account Administrator (the person who originally set up the account) can invite, edit, or remove authorized users.
To add an Authorized User:
Sign in to your account
From your dashboard, click on the dropdown next to your profile icon in the upper right corner
Select “Manage Access”
Enter the Authorized User’s name, email, and phone number
Assign a role that grants the permissions you want as shown in the chart
The Authorized User will receive a secure email invitation and will need to verify their identity through multi-factor authentication before accessing your account. You can also update or remove access at any time through the same “Manage Access” section, ensuring you stay in full control of who can view or manage your account.
- Can I close my account?
-
Yes you can. We’d hate to see you go, but we’re happy to help. Just give us a call at 1-800-637-5860. Individuals with speech or hearing disabilities may dial 711 to access Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) from a telephone or TTY. You can also complete and submit a Withdrawal Form (PDF) and select “close my account” on the form.
- How do I transfer account ownership?
-
You can transfer an account to another owner using our Change Account Owner Form (PDF).
